I went to Albania in early September this year on my way from Montenegro to Greece. Despite the beauty that this country has to offer it is still a long way off 'tourist ready.'

The transport system is decrepit - it took two 12 hour days to get from Budva to Dhermi beach - and that was by a couple of pretty experienced intrepid travellers. Asking locals where the bus stop was ended in chaos as even in Tirane there is no bus station; just random streets where vans and mini buses stop to pick you up.

Further problems relate to their currency; they seriously don't even understand it themselves which ends in some pretty heated arguments when in fact no one was in the wrong at all.

The beaches of Dhermi and Drymades are beautiful; the rubbish, broken bottles, wrecked lounges and beach umbrellas however are not very appealing.

One day it will be great, but in my opinion Albania is further behind in tourist readiness than anywhere I've travelled, including SE Asia, Middle East and Eastern Europe.
