The scenery in Sossusvlei and Southern Namibia is simply breathtaking. The raw beauty of this largely uninhabited area is a huge draw for travellers keen to experience the serenity of barren land and open sky. The vastness of the region’s unforgettable landscapes really does make holidays here spectacular.
Southern Namibia tours necessarily take in this impressive scenery and often also include trips into one of Africa’s largest national parks, the Namib-Naukluft National Park, which is home to the Naukluft Mountains, Namib Desert and the world’s highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei. Visiting these magnificent red-sand dunes is a real must. Take them in at sunrise or sunset for more moderate temperatures. Dusk and dawn are also the perfect times to get an ideal view of the dunes’ vibrant colours and textures.
A Southern Namibia hotel (usually a lodge or campsite) makes a terrific base from which to explore the area’s fascinating attractions. Hike along the Fish River, which winds through the world’s second-largest canyon, fly in a light aircraft above the Namib Desert, see skeletal trees in the Quiver Tree Forest or visit small desert towns, like Aus to observe the famous Namib Feral Horses.

Visitors to the area will be in the safe hands of regional experts the Cardboard Box Travel Shop, the local whl.travel connection. Rachael and her team are always able to provide up-to-date information, a particularly valuable service given the changeable nature of conditions on the ground.
Rachael explains: “Having worked with all levels of tourism, from backpackers to the luxury market, we feel we can offer clients local knowledge, a personal service and a real insight into travelling around Namibia. Unlike many websites, we prefer to chat to our clients before they make any definite bookings, making sure we find out what will most suit their interests, budget and timeframe. Since we only deal with incoming Namibian tourism, we are able to cater for all your requirements for travelling around this beautiful country, whether it be a safari, car rental or accommodation bookings.”
www.sossusvlei.travel is the third whl.travel portal launched in Namibia and follows destination sites in Etosha and Northern Namibia and Windhoek and Central Namibia. Stay tuned as the enterprising team at the Cardboard Box Travel Shop will soon be launching a fourth site in the Caprivi Strip.

Now, that is what I can call an impressive picture, I have never seeing two horses fighting in their two feet, is that common?
I’ve never seen it myself, but most of the horses I’ve been around have been fairly domesticated. I think the feral Namibian horses are a lot more wild in a lot of their behaviour. This sort of scene is probably pretty common around mating season!
