The bountiful flora and fauna ubiquitous in Western Uganda have helped make this country enormously popular with tourists. The magnificent landscapes – volcanic craters, grasslands, snowy mountain peaks and thick, verdant jungles – national parks, game reserves and bird sanctuaries coupled with the incredibly wildlife diversity and numerous activities make travel here the experience of a lifetime.

Western Uganda is just bursting with attractions, most notably the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a biodiversity hotspot that has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994. Southwestern Uganda – more specifically the combination of the Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga national parks – are the protected habitat of roughly half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas. Gorilla tracking will take you on a trek through invigorating terrain to view the rare mountain gorilla and has become increasingly popular with visitors.
Elsewhere in the region, the natural riches are no less rapturous. A trip to Queen Elizabeth National Park puts you in the thick of approximately 100 mammal species and over 600 different birds. Within the park, the Kasinga Channel has the largest concentration of hippos in the world. Kibale Forest National Park, Murchison Falls National Park and Lake Mburo National Park all also have exceptional game viewing and are best explored on a Western Uganda safari.
For the self-propelled, the Rwenzori Mountain trek takes in the fabled ‘Mountains of the Moon’ and through a mix of landscapes ranging from Uganda’s equatorial climate to Rwenzori’s snow-capped summit.

When exchanging greetings with Western Uganda's famously friendly children, ball your hand into a fist and say, "Bonga!"
Of course, throughout the region, located breathtakingly close to some of the world’s most spectacular wildlife and national parks, is a superb selection of Western Uganda safari lodges.
