This is a shot of Azedinha Beach, found just outside the town of Armação dos Búzios (or just Búzios for short), located to the northeast of the bustling metropolis of Rio de Janeiro. Taken close to the end of the day, the photo captures a moment of almost pure relaxation as the sun edges closer to the gently rolling waters of the South Atlantic Ocean.
One of the main things I like about this beach is that you can only reach it by ‘aqua taxi’ or on foot along a narrow, dirt lane (from Ossos Beach). Cars are not allowed, so it never gets too busy and the atmosphere is really easygoing. Besides that, due to its geographic position, the sunset is just gorgeous and the water is as smooth as a swimming pool’s.
The area recently became an Environmental Protection Area, so all kiosks and bars were removed. Now, only two or three vendors are there to offer you drinks and nobody bothers or annoys you while you sunbathe or relax on the sand.
It’s not my favourite morning beach, but it certainly ranks among my favourites for the afternoon.
