The Off-Season in Corfu, Greece: A Slower Kind of Travel

It becomes easy to find a table along the elegant Liston arcade and no one complains if you decide to spend hours and hours reading your newspaper while slowly sipping a coffee or ouzo. In the narrow alleys of Corfu Town, you can enjoy the small family-run tavernas that have been serving lunch to the locals for generations.

One of the wonders of a sub-tropical climate, such as that found in Bodrum, Turkey, is its almost invisible hydration system on the ground. Generally no drop of rain falls from May until November, but flowers and plants in nature nevertheless thrive well.

In addition to making trips to the towns and beaches of Corfu, Greece, a visitor must get to know this island’s lush green countryside. Picturesque hamlets and calm, peaceful olive fields await discovery, as do the manners and customs of the inhabitants, a couple of which are pictured in the photo below, taken in southeast Corfu outside of Petriti.
