We are committed to inspiring mindful and independent travellers headed off the beaten path with local businesses making responsible and sustainable decisions about their destinations. Through anecdotes, articles, profiles, opinion pieces and news, our local voices aim to inform travellers about unique and ethical ways to experience a destination, travel responsibly and help sustain the distinctive qualities of a place.

Although the Travel Word became an independent publishing platform in January 2013, it was first established as the online mouthpiece of the WHL Group (see details below). As such, a great deal of its content prior to January 2013 drew from a vast pool of ideas generated by the WHL Group’s local tour operators, partners, suppliers and more.
The Travel Word is a collaborative multi-user publishing platform contributed to by people who aim to improve the ethical standards of the global tourism industry. While the majority of our content is generated by those contributors, we do occasionally accept cash advertising, sponsorship, paid insertions or other forms of compensation, as is common practice in the travel industry.
Importantly, The Travel Word believes in honest relationships and opinions, and abides by lawful disclosure standards. We therefore fully reveal all sponsorship connections in order to safeguard the credibility of our writers. Starting in January 2013, when, from time to time, branded posts and paid content are infrequently featured on this website, that content or advertising is and will always be clearly identified as such. Prior to January 2013, a great deal of the content was inspired by WHL Group partners.
Additionally, while the managers of this website may occasionally be compensated for posts or receive complimentary travel or reduced “media” rates for hotels, tours and attractions (including those that may be featured on this website), we have always given and will continue to give our honest opinions, findings, beliefs or experiences on all topics, services and travel products.
