Video Spotlight: A Story for Tomorrow

For this week’s Video Spotlight, we’re delighted to bring you something a little bit different.

This video, by gnarly bay productions, has all the basics in place: fantastic travel footage – filmed during a voyage through Chile and Patagonia – with a great musical accompaniment by Balmorhea and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. But what really sets this short film apart is the outstanding narrative that has also been included.

The voiceover – provided by Cástulo Guerra – lends a fairytale quality to the piece. It makes us think of journeys that we’ve undertaken in the past with fondness, but it also inspires the familiar feeling of wanderlust. The thrill of adventure and imagining having our own narrator to catalogue our travels are both appealing prospects.

This video excels because the story it tells is both believable and fantastic. It takes a voyage through South America to another level and provides a unique perspective.

We love the originality and passion that went into making it.
